Our guide on how you can self vet your own tradesperson
Levels of expectancy and benchmarks for quality of service differ from person to person
which is why Trusted Tradesmen firmly believe that using the process of 'self vetting' is the only guaranteed way to ensure that you really do get what you expect from a tradesperson.
Deciding on who you should employ to carry out work on your business or home can be a daunting task, especially as in recent years the media have quite literally bombarded us with horrific tales regarding poor workmanship and warnings of the dreaded rogue trader.
You can't be blamed for being on your guard, infact you have every right to be cautious as after all it's your hard earned salary that's going to pay a tradesperson to work on your project so why should you accept a second class service.
In our opinion the key to succesfully finding the right tradesperson stems from:
1. Receiving recommendations from family, friends and work colleagues
2. Knowing which questions to ask before you sign on the dotted line
3. Getting to know the person you're employing and developing a good relationship with them prior to commencement of work.
Now ... Which one of the following adverts catches your eye the most ?
1. The big expensive advert
2. The budget text box

The majority would be drawn to advert number '1' as you get a sense that the company behind the big advertisement must be more established and must be a better bet to employ than that behind the budget text box. You also see companies advertising that they're a member of many associations, this offers you a sense of security as they must be pretty good to have achieved such high standards.
Not always true !
We could all replicate advert number '1' just by initially spending out that little bit extra so don't be fooled and don't go with your initial instincts.
Although some associations are quite strict as to the competency level that must be displayed to get that special sticker initially, this in some cases only involves passing a few tests and does not require the individuals to pass ongoing tests. Are they still a member of this association and has anyone checked ?
